Spent the day in Connecticut at JoyBoy's father's funeral and reception. Not really a funeral--a memorial service much like we had for my mom when she passed away.

I'd never met his dad, but I was going as a support to him, because he really didn't know his dad's new family very well. He and his dad were estranged for years--he even changed his last name to his mother's maiden name, in part to honor his dead grandfather.

There was much talk of JoyBoy's dad's politics ("just left of Karl Marx" said one quipster), his tireless activism, lively intellect and great sense of humor. In all these ways, JoyBoy resembles his father.
