While I am not a big supporter of despair as a lifestyle or world view, I am despairing of ever finding work. And the situation is getting pretty bad.

I had this idea that I could become a freelance corporate communications writer. I started volunteering my services to build up a portfolio of writing, contacting other writers to get their advice, etc. But there are so many writers in NYC, and even the ones with tons of experience aren't finding work.

I am feeling really lost.
